Frequently Asked Questions

What is Where in History?

Where in History is a free daily history game. Each day you get 5 history questions, each with a single written clue. You tap a spot on a 3D globe, and you score by how close you land to the real location. There are no photos to identify, no years to guess, and no time limits.

When does the daily puzzle reset?

Every day at 00:00 UTC. The daily set is the same for all players, so scores are directly comparable.

How is the score calculated?

Points are based on the distance between your tap and the true location — closer is better, and a bullseye within 25 km earns full points. Question 3 scores double, questions 4 and 5 score triple. A perfect day is 1000 points.

Do I need an account to play?

No. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, and no personal data collected. Your streak and best scores live only in your own browser's local storage. See the Privacy Policy.

Can I play past days' puzzles?

Each day's set is available only on that day. If you want more after finishing, Practice mode deals 5 random questions from the full bank of 150 locations.

What happens if I miss a day?

Your streak resets. Scores from days you did play stay in your browser history.

Can I switch between miles and kilometres?

Yes — distances default to miles, with a one-tap switch to kilometres in the top bar. Your preference is remembered.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. Drag to rotate the globe and tap to answer; pinch to zoom. The game runs entirely in your browser with no app to install.

Is it really free?

Yes — free to play, no ads, no in-app purchases.
