How to Play Where in History

Where in History is a free daily history game: every day you get 5 history questions, each with a single written clue. There are no photos, no dates to guess, and no countdown timer. You read the clue, spin the 3D globe, and tap where you think it happened.

The rules, in 30 seconds

  1. Read the clue. Each question gives you one original clue about a historical place or event — a battle, a building, a voyage, a discovery.
  2. Spin the globe. Drag to rotate, scroll or pinch to zoom.
  3. One tap locks your answer. Tap once on the globe and your guess is final — no take-backs.
  4. Score by distance. The closer your tap lands to the real location, the more points you score. A bullseye (within 25 km) earns full points.
  5. Later questions are worth more. Question 3 scores double, questions 4 and 5 score triple. A perfect day is 1000 points.

Daily challenge and practice mode

The daily challenge refreshes every day at 00:00 UTC and is the same 5 questions for everyone, so you can compare scores with friends. Finished the daily set? Practice mode gives you 5 random questions from the full bank of 150 hand-checked history locations.

Streaks and titles

Play every day to build your streak, and your total score earns you a title — from a first-time explorer all the way up to Legend of the Globe. Distances are shown in miles by default, with a one-tap switch to kilometres.
